SNMMI Officers

Frederic H. Fahey, DSc, 2012–13 SNMMI President
Frederic H. Fahey, DSc, has been the director of nuclear medicine physics at Children's Hospital Boston since 2003 and has held an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School since 2004. He has clinical experience as a PET physicist at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC, where he was an associate professor of radiology. He was also a nuclear medicine physicist and an assistant professor of radiology at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.

He received a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Master of Science and Doctor of Science in medical radiological physics from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Fahey's involvement with SNMMI includes serving as president-elect, vice president-elect and on the board of directors. He is a member of the SNMMI Finance Committee and has served as chair of the Scientific Program Committee for four years. He is also a member of SNMMI's New England Chapter.

Fahey is a member of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and earlier in 2012 was installed as an ACR Fellow. He is also a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. Fahey has written 54 journal articles and published 15 book chapters and serves as an expert consultant for the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Gary L. Dillehay, MD, FACNM, FACR, 2012-13 SNMMI President-Elect
Gary L. Dillehay MD, FACNM, FACR, is professor of radiology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Prior to joining Northwestern University in 2006, he held various academic appointments at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. Dillehay is certified by the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM).

An SNMMI member for more than 25 years, Dillehay has played an active role in the society. His most recent involvement with SNMMI includes serving as vice president-elect, chair of the Coding and Reimbursement Committee and as a member of the Commission on Health Care Policy, Computer Technology Assessment Committee and ACNM/SNMMI Government Relations Committee. He is the SNMMI delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA). Dillehay also served in multiple leadership positions in the Central Chapter of SNMMI.

Dillehay holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota and received his medical training at the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn. He has published over 19 peer-reviewed journal articles and has authored 10 book chapters and two books.

Dillehay serves on the board of directors for the Joint Review Committee on Education Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology and is an AMA advisor on multiple topics.

Peter Herscovitch, MD, 2012–13 SNMMI Vice President-Elect
Peter Herscovitch, MD, is director of the PET Department at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, Md. He was named chief of the PET section in 1987 and in 2005 was appointed director of the PET Department. Prior to his career at NIH, Herscovitch was an attending physician at Barnes Hospital and an instructor and assistant professor of neurology and radiology at Washington University School of Medicine, both in St. Louis, Mo.

An SNMMI member since 1983, Herscovitch has been involved in many councils, committees, task forces and other groups. Most recently, he has chaired SNMMI's Scientific Program Committee, served on the SNMMI Center for Molecular Imaging Innovation and Translation board of directors, and on the Ethics and Education Committees. He served as President of the SNMMI Brain Imaging Council, and received the Kuhl-Lassen Brain Imaging Award in 2000.

He is also a member of the Radiological Society of North America, American College of Physicians, American Academy of Neurology, International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, and the World Molecular Imaging Society. He has published more than 145 peer-reviewed journal articles and authored three books and 33 book chapters.

He holds electrical engineering and medical degrees from McGill University and completed his internship and residency at Royal Victoria Hospital, both in Montreal, Canada. Herscovitch completed a residency in neurology at McGill University and a fellowship in positron emission tomography at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.

George Segall, MD, 2011–12 SNMMI President
George Segall, MD, is chief of the nuclear medicine service at the Department of Veterans' Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, Palo Alto, Calif., and professor of radiology at Stanford University, Stanford, Calif. Segall has served at the Department of Veterans Affairs' Palo Alto Health Care System since 1986 and was named chief of nuclear medicine service there in 1998. At Stanford, Segall has been a professor in the department of radiology since 2006 and is also a professor in the department of cardiovascular medicine.

Having held numerous leadership posts at SNMMI, Segall has served on SNMMI's board of directors, chaired SNMMI's Commission on Education and was the 2009-2011 president of SNMMI's PET Center of Excellence. He is a member of SNMMI's Northern California Chapter, where he has served as president, president-elect, secretary-treasurer, councilor and scientific program chair.

Segall is also a director of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and a member of the American College of Nuclear Physicians, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the Academy of Molecular Imaging.

Segall has published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and authored six book chapters. He holds a medical degree from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley. He completed medical residency in internal medicine at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles and in nuclear medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.

Brenda J. King, CNMT, FSNMTS, 2012-13 SNMMITS President
Brenda J. King, CNMT, FSNMTS, is owner of BJ King & Associates, LLC, a company that offers advanced imaging accreditation consultation to hospitals and private practice imaging centers nationwide. She began her career in nuclear medicine technology more than 35 years ago as a radiopharmacy/nuclear medicine technologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif. She then moved to work on the industry side, working for Amersham, Bristol Meyers Squibb Medical Imaging and Cardinal Health.

King has served in many positions in SNMMITS, most recently as president-elect, Speaker for the National Council of Representatives, on the SNMMI House of Delegates and on the SNMMITS Executive Board, as well as on the SNMMI Nominating Committee, Committee on Councils, Committee on Chapters and the SNMMITS Physician-Technologist Task Force. She has also served the SNMMITS Pacific Southwest Chapter as president, president-elect and secretary and on multiple committees.

In addition, King is a member of the Association of Black Cardiologists, the Association of Nuclear Cardiology, the Los Angeles Radiologic Society and the Association of Molecular Imaging. She has received a number of awards for her work in nuclear medicine technology, including the SNMMITS President's Distinguished Service Award, SNMMITS Officer's Award and Bristol Meyers Squibb Clinical Specialist of the Year. She has published three peer-reviewed articles and has participated in 25 invited speaker presentations.

Scott Holbrook, BS, CNMT, FSNMTS, 2012–13 SNMMITS President-Elect
Scott Holbrook, BS, CNMT, FSNMTS, is a pharmaceutical research and regulatory affairs consultant for Invivo Molecular Imaging LLC— where he had previously served as vice president and president— located in Gray, Tenn. Prior to that, Holbrook held several positions in the pharmaceutical field, including vice president of Clinical Pharmacy Services Inc., Blue Ridge Isotopes LLC and Precision Nuclear LLC and as a market development manager at PETNET Pharmaceuticals. Earlier in his career, Holbrook was employed as the national director of PET Center Development at Lifescan Louisville and as a technologist at Cardiovascular Associates.

He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, W. Va. and attended East Tennessee State University, Quillen College of Medicine, in Johnson City, Tenn.

Since 1998, Holbrook has been involved with SNMMITS on many levels, most recently as co-chair of the SNMMI Center for Molecular Imaging Innovation and Translation Translational Research Task Force, SNMMITS representative to the Education and Research Foundation, chair of the SNMMITS Professional and Education Research Fund Chair and on the SNMMITS Strategic Planning Task Force.

Holbrook received fellow status in the SNMMITS in 2005 and was the recipient of the Mallinckrodt Medical Award of Excellence in 1997. He has published more than 12 journal articles, contributed to one book chapter and has shared his knowledge in more than 60 invited speaker presentations.

Ann Marie Alessi, BS, CNMT, NCT, RT(N), 2011–12 SNMMITS President
Ann Marie Alessi, BS, CNMT, NCT, RT(N), is a product sales manager of nuclear medicine at Biodex Medical Systems, Inc., Shirley, NY.

Since 1996, Alessi has served on numerous councils and committees for SNMMITS and has been involved with the organization on many levels throughout her career. She belongs to the Greater New York Chapter of SNMMITS and the Long Island Society of Nuclear Medicine Technology. She has published four book chapters in the Nuclear Cardiology Technology Study Guide and has shared her knowledge in more than 50 invited speaker presentations.

Alessi has received many honors and awards for excellence in the field of nuclear medicine. She graduated as valedictorian of the nuclear medicine technology program at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Northport, NY, and is a retired First Sergeant for the US Army Reserves Medical Corp after serving for 24 years.

Virginia M. Pappas, CAE, SNMMI Chief Executive Officer
Virginia M. Pappas, CAE, who has 30 years of executive experience in the association and nonprofit sector in Washington, D.C., and New York City, is SNMMI's chief executive officer and an ex-officio member of the society's board of directors. Pappas, who has held the senior management position since 2002, previously served as the society's deputy executive director. She began her career with the society in 1978, holding a series of leadership roles with SNMMI and SNMMITS. She holds a bachelor's degree in management from George Mason University and numerous post-graduate-level association management certificates.
