| We are using the CPT 78070 for our parathyroid imaging. Multiple scans are obtained after the injection at different times. Can the CPT 78070 be used repeatedly within a 24 hr period? (Professional comp) |

| In your question you mention billing twice for the professional component. First, we recommend appending the modifier 26 (Professional Component) to identify the professional component for this procedure; this is standard for all nuclear medicine CPT procedures. Second, it is not appropriate to bill repeatedly (two or more units), as multiple imaging is common and inherent in the resources required for CPT 78070-26. |
